Lori Foster sits down with Mike Swick! New York Times best selling author, Lori Foster interviews Mike Swick and discusses his future in the fighting world.
1)When is your next fight? MS: Not sure right now... 2) When preparing for a fight, how long do you do intense training? What hours are involved? Whom do you train with? MS: I usually train 8-12 weeks out, 4-6 hours a day, 6 days a week. 3) When you’re between fights, do you still train to stay “ready?” In other words, is it now a lifestyle, or do you still dig into a Big Mac on occasion? MS: I do splurge on my diet but stay training as long as I am healthy and uninjured. 4) Do you have an outside job, other than the MS: No, I am a full time fighter. 5) How often are you required to travel for promotional opportunities? Do you like it? Do you enjoy meeting your fans? Met any crazies? (I know I have.) MS: I am required to do a lot of PR but I love it. I love meeting the fans I inspire. 6) You have an impressive MS: Well, so far it was Okami. He was very tough. 7) Have you ever been seriously hurt in a fight, or seriously hurt someone? What are the worst injuries you’ve sustained? MS: No, I don’t think so. My worst injury so far was in my last fight, which was my pride. 8) Do you have any favorite fighters? Guys you like to see compete, or friends you root for? MS: So many! 9) Do you have a current significant other? If so, how does she feel about your MS: I have a beautiful fiancee. She attends all my fights. I think its tough on her but she enjoys it. 10) Tell us something about Mike that we might not know. What’s your favorite food, favorite movie, favorite band, etc... MS: My favorite TV shows are The Shield, Entourage, and 11) So I have to ask you – “What’s a Chuck Liddell?” (From a recent Entourage, where Chuck played himself in the show.) I love Entourage. Ari is great, but Drama is the man. He’s my favorite character. “VICTORY!” So, Mike, who’s your favorite character? MS: Haha - I like them all. They did a great job casting that show. It’s hard to pick a favorite. I definitely like Drama and Turtle the most, but Ari is amazing as well. Maybe he’s my favorite, too. I just can’t wait for him to show up in a scene because I know he will say something outlandish and funny. Thanks! -- Swick

REVIEW QUOTES “This is a great story of two unique fighters, one by profession and one by life circumstances...” Sarah Wethern, Romance Junkies, http://www.romancejunkies.com “Opening up a book penned by Ms Foster is like stepping into a privately populated town, one you will be sad to leave when the read is at an end and one you will save so you can re-visit old friends.” “...all the elements of a great Carolyn Crisher, Romance Reviews Today, http://www.romrevtoday.com EXCERPT Sweat poured over his shoulders and trickled down his spine to soak the waistband of his shorts. Training other athletes and training himself were two very different things. He’d never pushed anyone as hard as he pushed now. The workout was both exhilarating and exhausting. Padded in protective gear, Gregor squared off with him again. Simon prepared himself – and a flash of blond hair distracted him just long enough for Gregor to knock him on his ass. His head rang, darkness crowded in, and then he had no more time to mollycoddle himself because Gregor attacked. Six and a half feet of muscled fighter landed on him. Shaking off the cobwebs, Simon went on automatic pilot, defending himself by rote, countering all of Gregor’s attempts at submission holds and blocking most of his punches. With a few well-timed moves, Simon managed to reverse their positions and in seconds, he had Gregor in a rear-naked choke. “Ho, hold up, Simon. He’s tapping.” Dean’s voice cut through the fog, and Simon immediately loosened his hold. Gregor rolled over to his knees, cursing himself. Exhaustion pulled Simon flat to the mat. Eyes closed, he sucked air into his straining lungs while Dean took the time to tell Gregor what he’d done wrong, and what he’d done right. Then he started on Simon. “What the hell were you thinking? You dropped your hands and you looked away from him. That’s the number one rule – to always keep your eyes on your opponent.” Simon didn’t open his eyes yet. Gregor’s slug had nearly knocked him out. Little stars danced behind his closed eyelids. “I know.” “Couldn’t prove it by me,” Dean said. “If you’d been looking at Gregor, you’d have seen a wild haymaker like that coming a mile away.” Damn harpie. “I know.” “Maybe Gregor is too damn big for you –” “No.” “Then you’re not putting enough into it. You know if you can’t handle him here, you sure as hell won’t be able to handle someone in a competition.” “Stop bitching.” Simon opened his eyes to see the bright lights on the ceiling of Dean’s gym. What had distracted him? Oh yeah. He sat up and twisted around in one motion to see a Barbie clone standing inside the gym doorway. Yep. She was the distraction all right. Dean followed Simon’s line of vision and grunted. “You’ve got to be kidding me.” With a shoulder propped on the wall, her arms crossed, Blondie stared at Simon. Dean asked, “Who is that?” “Hell if I know.” Without looking away from her, Simon pushed to his feet. “But spread the word before any of these bozos get lewd ideas – I’ve got dibs.”
